This template is used to cite judgments listed in the British and Irish Legal Information Institute ([[Free Access to Law Movement#BAILII|BAILII]]) database. You should look up the case you wish to cite on [http://www.bailii.org BAILII], then refer to the [[Universal Resource Locator|URL]] of the web page on which the case appears to fill in the information required by the template.

====Privy Council cases before May 1996====
The [[Universal Resource Locator|URL]] (web address) format used in BAILII for decisions of the [[Judicial Committee of the Privy Council]] up to December 1995 are in the form "<nowiki>http://www.bailii.org/uk/cases/UKPC/[year]/[year]_[num].html</nowiki>". From May 1996 onwards URLs are in the standard form "<nowiki>http://www.bailii.org/uk/cases/UKPC/[year]/[num].html</nowiki>". Between January and April 1996, a mixture of these two URL formats is used.

To specify that a Privy Council case uses the "<nowiki>http://www.bailii.org/uk/cases/UKPC/[year]/[year]_[num].html</nowiki>" format, add the parameter "<tt>format=1</tt>".

====Scottish cases====
Several different URL formats are used in BAILII for Scottish cases. Use this template to link to Scottish cases as follows:
