==Usage==
Use template {{tlx|xt}} (the name of which stands for "example text") to change the given text to {{xt|the serif typeface, and green text}}, in order to format examples of style, especially when using quotation marks or italics could be confusing. This template is used frequently in the [[Wikipedia:Manual of Style|Manual of Style]] when ''inline'' typeface changes are needed. For cases where the serif typeface is not desirable (e.g. in blocks of computer code), use {{tlx|bxt}}, which substitutes boldfacing. For style examples that break to their own line (e.g. paragraphs), use {{tlx|xt2}}. {{strong|This template is not for use as quotation markup in talk pages; use {{tlx|tq}} instead.}}

For examples of {{!xt|bad/wrong style, in red}}, use {{tlx|!xt}} (or {{tlx|!bxt}}) and {{tlx|!xt2}}, respectively.

The bold, sans-serif equivalent is {{tlx|bxtd}}The {{tlx|xtd}} template exists for {{xtg|deprecated}} examples. It's alias {{tlx|xtg}} (for "grey") can be used to indicate uncertain, unavailable, disabled, lorem, etc., examples without implying [[deprecation]]. The bold, sans-serif equivalent is {{tlx|bxtd}} (and {{tlx|bxtg}} alias).

The {{tlx|xtn}} template is for {{xtn|neutral}} examples, and has no color change, but is otherwise identical to {{tnull|xt}}. It can be used with {{tnull|xt}} and {{tnull|!xt}} to indicate usage that is neither advised nor advised against or deprecated. The bold, sans-serif equivalent is {{tlx|bxtn}}.

As with all templates, when the text, given as the template parameter, has any equals characters ("="),
prefix the text with {{para|1}} in order to ensure any equals signs in the given text
are correctly interpreted as being part of the normal text.

The accompanying change in typeface to a serif typestyle, ({{xt|example text}}) is to make it fully accessible for those with color blindness.

The parameter {{para|title}} takes text, which cannot be marked up in any way, and displays it as a pop-up "tooltip" (in most browsers) when the cursor hovers over the span

This template uses the ombox CSS classes in [[MediaWiki:Common.css]] for most of its looks, thus it is fully skinnable.

This template calls {{tl|ombox/core}} which holds most of the code for {{tl|ombox}}, while {{tl|ombox}} itself does parameter preprocessing.

Internally this meta-template uses HTML markup instead of wiki markup for the table code. That is the usual way we make meta-templates since wiki markup has several drawbacks. For instance it makes it harder to use [[m:Help:ParserFunctions|parser functions]] and special characters in parameters.

The default images for this meta-template are in png format instead of svg format. The main reason is that some older web browsers have trouble with the transparent background that MediaWiki renders for svg images. The png images here have hand optimised transparent background colour so they look good in all browsers. Note that svg icons only look somewhat bad in the old browsers, thus such hand optimisation is only worth the trouble for very widely used icons.
