Going on a ‘[[heat]] ride’ is another term for having sex with a female animal while she is in heat. At this time they are known to be increasingly flirtatious, aroused, and amorous. They will often flag or even mount the object of their affection!

Some would advise that the first time a zoo attempts sexual intercourse with an animal should be when she is in heat, as she is more likely to enjoy the attentions and even repeatedly seek out her [[mate]] for [[further]] interaction. Some females will only have sex while they are in heat, while others may decide that they enjoy the attention throughout the year.
