== Introduction == The Zoo Code is based on Robert Hayden's "[[wikipedia:Geek Code|Geek Code]]," Ross Smith's "[https://en.wikifur.com/wiki/Furry_code Furry Code]" and Bob Donahue's [[wikipedia:Natural Bears Classification System|Natural Bears Classification System (NBCS)]] or "Bear Code." You can find some links to other similar codes on Peter T. Caffin's "[https://web.archive.org/web/19990128115108/http://code.goth.net/gothcode/ Goth Code Home Page]." Some sections of the Zoo Code are more or less borrowed from the Geek and Furry codes referenced above, and all claims and rights remain unaffected. Codes such as these allow members of online communities that largely communicate asynchronously to use the signature feature of modern posting forums to tell readers a lot of relevant personal details about themselves with merely a handful of written characters. The author of this code, Actaeon, wrote on "The Forest" that after having seen the Furry Code, it seemed to him that the online Zoophile community needed such a code for themselves. The sentiment was echoed by another editor, Hobbes, who suggested that they develop it together. Still more editors—Miami, Shared Wulf and Kurrelgyre, as well as many others—sent long lists of proposed extensions for it.
