==Prognosis==
The overall risk of death for leptospirosis is 5–10%.<ref name="Evangelista2010"/> For those with jaundice, the case fatality can increase up to&nbsp;15%.<ref name="Spickler 2013"/> For those infected who present with confusion and neurological signs, there is a high risk of death.<ref name="Haake 2015"/> Other factors that increase the risk of death include reduced urine output, age more than 36&nbsp;years, and respiratory failure.<ref name="Haake 2015"/> With proper care, most of those infected will recover completely. Those with acute kidney failure may suffer persistent mild kidney impairment after they recover.<ref name="Haake 2015"/> In those with severe lung involvement, the risk of death is 50–70%.<ref name="Lane 2016"/>

In one study, 30% of patients who recovered from acute leptospirosis complained of long-lasting fatigue, malaise, weakness, muscle pain, and headaches. In 21% of these patients, these symptoms lasted for more than 2 years.<ref name="Haake 2015"/> Eye problems occur in 10%&nbsp;of those who recovered from leptospirosis.<ref name="Spickler 2013"/> These complications range from mild [[anterior uveitis]] to severe panuveitis (which involves all three vascular layers of the eye) post-recovery. In up to 80%&nbsp;of those infected, ''Leptospira'' DNA is detected in the aqueous humour of the eye.<ref name="Haake 2015"/> Eye problems usually have a good prognosis following treatment or they are self-limiting.<ref name="Spickler 2013"/>
