Template:Template doc page viewed directly This is a template to generate links to Internet Movie Database. This template should be used exclusively for PEOPLE.

If you need to link a movie, use Template:imdb title instead.

Instructions

  1. Copy and paste one of the options below into the article
  2. Go to http://www.imdb.com and search for the person you want
  3. Click on the correct link to go to the person's page; be sure you're getting the right person
  4. The page URL should look like http://www.imdb.com/name/nm#######/, where "#######" indicates a number
  5. Copy only that number—be sure to remove the "nm" and to keep all the zeros
  6. Double-click "ID" in the string you pasted earlie and replace it with that number
  7. As needed, double-click "Name" and replace it with the person's name as you want it to appear in the link

Options

This option needs just the ID number, it uses the article title as the link text:

* {{imdb name|ID}}

Use the following option when you need to have the link text be other than the article name:

For example, Template:Imdb name rather than Template:Imdb name

Note that you would always use this option when adding a link to an article other than the person whom you're linking

For example, if you include the IMDb link for Bette Davis in the Joan Crawford article, you must specify Bette Davis's name as the text for the link using this option
* {{imdb name|ID|Name}}

Note that the options include the "*" for a bulleted list since this is most likely to be used in an "External links" section.

Examples

  1. Copy and paste one of the options above into the article
  2. Go to http://www.imdb.com and search for "Jack Nicholson"; you'll reach this page: http://www.imdb.com/find?s=all&q=Jack+Nicholson</t>
  3. Click on the correct Jack Nicholson in the list:
    1. Jack Nicholson(Actor, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (1975))
  4. You then reach this page: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000197/
  5. Copy "0000197", omitting the "nm"
  6. Double-click on "ID" in the string and paste the number
    1. For the first option above, just double-click "ID" and paste the number you found:
      * {{imdb name|0000197}} results in:
      Note that the link text is the same as the title of the article; since the link text should be the actor's name, use the second option
    2. For the second option double-click "ID" and paste the number, then double-click "Name" and replace it with "Jack Nicholson"
      * {{imdb name|0000197|Jack Nicholson}} results in:
