Usage

Use this Rcat template in any namespace.
  • This redirect category (Rcat) template populates Category:Redirects from template shortcuts and, when the shortcut is in the Main (article) namespace, the Unprintworthy redirects category. At some point in the future, Jimmy Wales wants to make a printed version of the full Wikipedia encyclopedia, and template shortcut redirects from the Main namespace are not suitable for a printed version. In other words they are "unprintworthy".
  • Add this Rcat to a redirect in the following manner:
#REDIRECT [[(Target page name)]] {{R from template shortcut}}
This is in accord with instructions found at Wikipedia:REDCAT.
  • Template {{This is a redirect}} may also be used to add this and other appropriate Rcats to a redirect.
  • Use this Rcat on any redirect that is a shortcut to a template, which usually has a longer pagename. The redirect itself does not necessarily have to be a template, e.g., [[T:S]], which is a template shortcut that is actually in the Main (article) namespace. Such shortcuts are called pseudo-namespace redirects.
    • Note: Pseudo-namespace shortcuts such as T:S above can be transcluded by use of a leading colon, as in {{:T:S|example text}}, which results in T:S.
  • It is important to note that it is the target that determines the difference between a template shortcut and any other shortcut. If the shortcut redirect is in any namespace and the target is a template, then the redirect is a "template shortcut". Shortcut redirects that target template namespace pages should be tagged with the {{R from template shortcut}} and never be tagged with the plain {{R from shortcut}} Rcat, which is meant only for shortcuts that are not to templates.
