This is a documentation subpage for Template:R from template shortcut. It may contain usage information, categories and other content that is not part of the original template page. |
This template should not be substituted. |
Usage
Use this rcat template in any namespace.
- This redirect category (rcat) template populates Category:Redirects from template shortcuts and, when the shortcut is in the main-article namespace (mainspace), the Unprintworthy redirects category. At some point in the future, Jimmy Wales wants to make more printed versions of Wikipedia encyclopedia articles. Template-shortcut redirects from mainspace are not suitable for a printed version. In other words they are unprintworthy.
- Add this rcat to a redirect in the following manner:
#REDIRECT [[(target page name)]] {{R from template shortcut}}
- This is in accord with instructions found at Wikipedia:REDCAT.
- Template {{This is a redirect}} may also be used to add this and up to seven appropriate rcats to a redirect.
- Use this rcat on any redirect that is a shortcut to a template, which usually has a longer pagename. The redirect itself does not necessarily have to be a template, e.g., [[T:S]], which is a template shortcut that is actually in the Main (article) namespace. Such shortcuts are called pseudo-namespace redirects.
- Note: Pseudo-namespace template shortcuts such as T:S above can be transcluded by use of a leading colon, as in...
{{:T:S|This text has been "struck through".}}
, which results in...This text has been "struck through".
- It is important to note that it is the target that determines the difference between a template shortcut and any other shortcut. If the shortcut redirect is in any namespace and the target is a template, then the redirect is a "template shortcut". Shortcut redirects that target template namespace pages should be tagged with the {{R from template shortcut}} and never be tagged with the plain {{R from shortcut}} rcat, which is meant only for shortcuts that are not to templates.
- Also, template talk pages are in the talk namespace, not in template space; if the shortcut is to a talk page of any subject namespace, then use {{R from shortcut}} instead of this rcat.
