This template index page furnishes editors with a practical tool to quickly find the [[WP:RCAT|redirect category templates]] (rcats) that are used most often. This index template organises the templates by function and, in some cases, provides examples of where and when to use them. For a complete alphabetical list of redirect category templates, see [[Wikipedia:Template messages/Redirect pages]]. The procedure to use for placing these rcats on redirects will be found at [[WP:REDCAT]].

At some point in the future, [[Jimmy Wales]] wants to make a <span class="plainlinks">[http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Wikipedia:Pushing_to_1.0&oldid=1319195 printed version]</span> of the full ''Wikipedia'' encyclopedia. Some rcats place a redirect in either {{Cat|Printworthy redirects}} or {{Cat|Unprintworthy redirects}} by default. Other rcats do not, which means that it is up to editors to choose to the best of their knowledge which of those categories, [[wp:Printworthiness|Printworthy or Unprintworthy]], is appropriate and should be populated. The rcats that can be used separately to populate those categories are:

==About hidden categories on Wikipedia==
|list3 ={{Navbox|child
Thank you for your interest in sorting redirects into their correct categories!  Most of the categories populated by redirect category templates ([[WP:RCAT|Rcats]]) are [[WP:HIDDENCAT|hidden categories]].  Hidden cats cannot be seen by viewers who are not logged in, nor by editors who have not set their preferences to view hidden cats.  So if you have tagged a redirect with an Rcat and saved the redirect, but you cannot see the category, the first thing to check is if you have set your preferences to view hidden cats:

==Notes==
* {{tl|This is a redirect}} can be used to add up to seven redirect category templates to redirects.  Click the link and see template documentation for details.
* For Talk pages, there are only certain redirect category templates you should use. The only rcats that apply to Talk pages are {{tl|R from alternative name}}, {{tl|R from shortcut}}, those associated with moves, merges, disambiguations and cross-namespace redirects.  For more information, click on the templates.
* If a redirect is tagged incorrectly, for example, if an editor places a mainspace-only rcat on a redirect in another namespace, the redirect will not be sorted into the expected category.  Instead, the redirect may be sorted into [[:Category:Pages with incorrectly transcluded templates]], a category that should be empty.
* When rcats are used to categorize image-file redirects, the category(ies) may not appear on the redirect page after saving even if preferences are set to view hidden cats.  Yet the image-file redirect will still populate the category(ies).  For example, in the [[:Category:Redirects from moves]] at the bottom of the page under section heading '''Media in category "Redirects from moves"''', an image-file redirect has been correctly categorized, and yet <code><nowiki>{{Redr|move|short}}</nowiki>'s</code> categories may not appear on the '''<span class="plainlinks">[https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=File:LG_enV2.jpg&redirect=no image-file redirect's]</span>''' page.  Hidden categories on image-file redirects can also be detected by clicking on "Page information" in the '''{{MediaWiki:Toolbox}}'''.
