Zooey is a term for someone or something that is essentially of an animal other nature. It's used to describe anything that might be of interest to zoos, such as furry artwork or research into animal welfare. The term often sidesteps the sexual requirement of zoophilia and calls attention to the broad non-sexual side of zoo culture. It often applies to anything that is 'queer' in a way that references animal others.

The word has been used for many years, and a skit from the first season of Zooier Than Thou pokes fun at the alternative wording.
