Usage

This template is used to cite judgments listed in the BAILII database.

Parameters

All parameters are optional unless otherwise specified.

Parameter Description
Case name
litigants The names of the litigants separated with v or v. for versus (in other words, the case name), like this: "Council of Civil Service Unions v. Minister for the Civil Service".
link The name of a Wikipedia article about the case, for example: "Council of Civil Service Unions v Minister for the Civil Service".
BAILII link: http://www.bailii.org/country/cases/court/division/year/num.html#parapara
country Mandatory: The code used by BAILII indicating the jurisdiction or "country" of the case, as follows:

Omit this parameter for cases from the courts of England and Wales.

court Mandatory: The neutral citation code used by BAILII to identify the court that decided the case, as follows:
division Mandatory for some cases: For some cases, you will need to enter a code used by BAILII to identify the division of the court that decided the case.
year Mandatory: the year of the decision.
num Mandatory: the case number.
para A paragraph number of the case that you wish to cite.
Other information
date The date that the case was decided. You may enter the date in any format accepted by the template {{date}}, such as "22 November 1983" or "1983-11-22". It will appear a day-month-year format.
parallelcite Parallel citations to the case. Separate the citations with commas, like this: "[1985] A.C. 374, [1984] 3 All E.R. 935".
courtname The court that decided the case. The name of the court can be wikilinked, like this: "[[Judicial functions of the House of Lords|House of Lords]]".
juris The jurisdiction that decided the case, such as "England and Wales" or "Scotland".

For Privy Council cases, to achieve a result like "Privy Council (on appeal from Jamaica)", use "courtname=[[Judicial Committee of the Privy Council|Privy Council]]" and "juris=on appeal from Jamaica".
