Stewart Murray Wilson, known as the "Beast of Blenheim", is a sexual offender from Blenheim, New Zealand. He is currently in Rolleston Prison.
As a teenager Wilson was convicted on burglary charges and was a patient at Cherry Farm psychiatric hospital in Dunedin, allegedly due to brain damage.[1]
In 1996 Wilson was sentenced to 21 years imprisonment for sexual offending against 16 women and girls over approximately 25 years,[2] his convictions including rape, attempted rape, indecent assault, stupefying, wilful ill-treatment of a child, and bestiality.[3] Despite repeated appearances before the parole board since September 2006[4] he has not been released due to his unrepentant behaviour, unwillingness to engage with treatment options and his assessed high/acute risk of reoffending.[5][6]
Wilson formed a long-term relationship while in prison.[7] A parole board hearing revealed his nominated support person was "serving a community-based sentence and ha[d] a history of mental disability."[8]
Wilson refused to provide a DNA sample in relation to the murder of Teresa Cormack,[9] for which another man was convicted on genetic evidence in 2002.
In 2003, Wilson doctored and distributed a letter from the Justice Minister, Phil Goff.[10]
Wilson is due to be released from Rolleston Prison on 1 September 2012. The parole board has imposed 17 release conditions on him, one of which is to wear a GPS tracking device. This will make him the first New Zealand child sex offender to be tracked in such a manner. He will also be forced to live in a state house on Whanganui Prison land.[11]
