ZETA Principles
History
The ZETA community was born on the computer networks of American zoophiles in the early 90s.
The word ZETA (Zoophiles for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) is a snub to the anti-zoophile position of the American association PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals). ZETA is therefore a retroacronym formed by substituting the letter P for “People” for PETA with the Greek letter Z (capital zeta) for “Zoophiles”. This Greek letter clearly evokes practice, Greek antiquity, but above all membership in the ZETA community (reference to American fraternities).
The ZETA community has established a ZETA (code of conduct). This is a statement followed by a small number of principles advocating an ethical approach by zoophiles to animals. These principles still stand today despite much criticism.
The ZETA badge usually consists of a lowercase zeta in a modern variant, although the glyph is free to choose. It is inscribed in a ZETA circle, i.e. a circle possibly embellished with a motif reminiscent of Taijitu. An analogy can be drawn between the zeta and lambda (both tiny) of the New York gay community of the 1970s, as well as between the ZETA circle and the Taijitu of the Australian bisexual community of the 1990s.

For some, the emergence of the ZETA current has generated tension among zoos given the distinction it advocates between bestiality and zoophilia. It has happened that ZETAs "out" (give) people whose practices they did not consider acceptable. In a way, the Zeta "code" was used by some to take advantage of a more ethical approach compared to others. It created a new group of people "who were much better than the rest" and provided clearance for possible bestiality prosecutions.
However, the values put forward by ZETA correspond to the approach of a large number of zoophiles.

ZETA Principles
ZETA represents Zoophiles for Ethical Treatment of Animals (Zoophile for the ethical treatment of animals). In the course of this, some rules were drawn up that should generally be adhered to.
Those principles were created in the ’90s by the American zoophile community. The aim was to establish rules and a moral framework regarding the responsible treatment of our fellow animals.

- 1. Bestow upon animals the same kindness one would wish bestowed upon oneself.
- 2. Consider the well being of an animal companion as important as ones own.
- 3. Place the animals will and well being ahead of ones desires for sexual gratification.
- 4. Teach those who seek knowledge about bestiality and zoophilia without promoting it.
- 5. Discourage the practice of bestiality in the presence of fetish seekers.
- 6. Censure sexual exploitation of animals for the purpose of financial gain.
- 7. Censure those who practice and promote animal sexual abuse.
