Creating Marriage to Animals

In many times and places, there have been tales of humans wedded to non-human animals; peoplefrom places as diverse as Asia, Europe, and North America have all had stories about people coming together with animals as husband and wife. Sometimes these tales are claimed to refer to animals only as symbols for the animal kingdom in general or nature itself, though real-life tales of bestiality between humans and these same species of animals may beg to differ.

No other culture can compete with the Hindus when it comes to marriage between human-beings and other species of animals. They believe that some animals are actually gods, so this is not seen necessarily as an act of bestiality but also as a union of mankind with the divine.

While the marriages are not legally recognized, they are considered to be very important socially and spiritually, even having the possibility to change the course of an individual’s very life! In some cases, people are seeking to make amends for poor treatment of animals in the past and thus they join together in matrimony in order to set things right.

Marriage to animals has sometimes been performed at meetings for zoophiles, such as ZooCon and their popular ‘Circle of Joining’ ceremonies.

One man in Sudan was forced to marry a goat after he was found having a sexual relationship with it, similar to the time in which a man was married to a cow for the same reason. Most human-animal marriages are consensual. Some of the other animals which have married humans include dogs, horses, frogs, cats, and even a dolphin!

While no country has laws expressly forbidding the marriage of humans and animals (though such unions are usually not recognized) consummating the marriage is a different matter entirely and can sometimes lead to legal consequences, as well as the general social problems which may sometimes result in countries where marriage to animals is not widespread.
